There are two kinds of blocks that can be put on cards:
- MCC (Merchant Category Code) blocks put on the cards by the sponsor bank
- Card swipe blocks put on by the acquiring processor via the merchant
You can find our article on MCC blocks from our sponsor banks here. We try to work with the sponsor banks to lift some of these restrictions over time, but we can never promise a block can ever be lifted.
In this article, we will focus on the card swipe blocks that we have seen merchants place on different BINs through their processor. This list is constantly changing and being updated.
Consumer Reloadable Card Programs
Our consumer cards can typically be used anywhere "Debit Mastercard" is accepted by a merchant, but we have seen some merchants block prepaid debit card BINs, or more often, only accept credit card payments. Here are some merchants that have had failures in the past:
- Cash App
- Discovery+
- GetMyBoat
- Facebook Ads
- FedEx
- Google Ads
- GSuite
- Instagram Ads
- JetBlue
- Stubhub
- Twitter Ads
The vast majority of merchant blocks are because they only accept credit card payments and/or they don't accept prepaid debit card BINs. There are also some merchants that write in their FAQ that they accept prepaid debit cards, but then in reality don't, or the reverse. Please report any of these circumstances to us, and we will examine it with the merchant directly.
Business Payment Card Programs
We have not yet encountered any merchant that has rejected our Supplier Payments/Business Payment cards! This is because these cards run on the Visa Signature network, and there are very few merchants that block Visa credit card payments.
If you are concerned about potential payment rejections, we highly recommend that you find a way to use our business cards.
