Rewards are disbursed on the 1st of each month, for any transaction that occurred in the period ending before the date of the disbursement.
Adding & Editing Rules
To add rewards rules go to Admin > Cards > Card Rewards on the account portal after logging in.
Reward Category
-
Balance: Disburse a reward based on a cardholder's average balance for the period. For instance, you may want to offer a .5% savings rate on the user's average balance throughout the year.
-
Bonus: Disburse a cash bonus, either one-time (check initial period only), or ongoing. For instance, you may want to offer a $20 sign up bonus for all new users.
-
Merchant Name: Offer rewards at certain 3rd party merchants. For instance, you may want to give 10% discounts at Home Depot and Lowes. This only works on cleansed merchant names that exist in our merchant database. We automatically cleanse all merchants in our paid plans, however, this isn't 100% reliable. It's far more accurate for national chains than local small businesses. We recommend not using this method for the latter, and instead retrieving the MID directly from your partner merchants if possible.
-
Merchant ID (MID): Offer rewards at your own merchant using your Merchant IDs (MID), or at 3d party merchants if you gather their MIDs (not publicly available). The Merchant ID (MID) will be returned to Hydrogen at the point of sale on all purchases. If you are the merchant and don't know how to retrieve your MID, please follow our guide here.
-
Merchant Category Code (MCC): Offer rewards at specific categories based on Visa's Merchant Category Code (MCC) designations. For instance, you may want to offer rewards for certain hotels and airlines which have MCCs.
-
Spending: Offer rewards based on a designated cardholder spending amount. For instance, you may want to offer 1% cash back on all purchases for a select period of time.
-
Transaction Category: Offer rewards at specific transaction categories, based on Hydrogen MCC mappings. For instance, you may want to offer 10% off purchases at Gas Stations.
Reward Type
-
Absolute: Choose this option if you do not want a threshold to be met before a reward can be paid. For instance, you may want to offer a $10 reward at Home Depot regardless of how much is spent.
-
Threshold: Choose this option if want a threshold to be met before a reward can be paid. You will also be asked to enter a "Threshold Amount" which. For instance, you may want to only pay the reward when a user spends at least $100 during the period.
Calendar Period
-
Monthly: For example, monthly rewards earned will be calculated based on transactions from March 1 - March 31, and paid on April 1.
-
Quarterly: For example, quarterly rewards earned will be calculated based on transactions from January 1 - March 31, and paid on April 1.
-
Yearly: For example, yearly rewards earned will be calculated based on transactions from January 1 - December 31, and paid on the following January 1st of the next year.
Initial Period Only: Check this if users are only eligible for the reward in the first calendar period set (month, quarter, year etc.). After they receive the reward for the initial period, they will no longer be eligible.
Client Group: Enter a comma separated list of identifiers stored as group
in Nucleus /client. Examples of groups may include subscription plan IDs, promotional groups, and other categories of users that should receive different reward tiers. If you wish to group clients, you may do so when you first sign them up in Nucleus as a client or after through a PUT when you receive the onSuccess event back on the card issuance component.
Reward Amount
-
%: Dollar amount for the reward such as $10
-
$: Percentage for the reward such as 1%
Max Amount ($): Maximum dollar amount that can be paid out for a percentage based reward. For instance, if you set the max amount to $10 and there is a percentage reward amount for 1% on all spending, if a cardholder spends $2,000 during the period, they will only receive $10 as a reward, instead of 1% of $2,000 or $20.
